Anyway, I didn't know about the light switches being outside the rooms. For the first few days I would just never turn the bathroom light on because I couldn't find it and there is a skylight so I didn't really need it anyway. Well, one night I stayed up later than anyone. I went to the restroom to brush my teeth right before I went to bed, but since it was night there was no light coming from the skylight. I had no choice but to search for the light switch in the dark. I was searching and searching all over the walls with my hands and all the sudden I felt something. It was not a light switch though. Whatever it was, I knocked it over and shattered it all over the tile floor. At this point my heart is racing because everyone is in bed, I've most likely woken everyone up, and I've broken something that could or could not be extremely meaningful to the family. I wanted to fly home to Indiana right then and there. And don't forget, I still couldn't see anything to be able to clean it up. Thankfully Jamie had gone to bed not too much earlier, and he usually sleeps with his door cracked a little. I whispered in to his room, "Jamie.. will you help me." He was very nice to get up and help me find the light, which of course is right outside the door. What was it I broke you're wondering? It was a glass duck that was hanging on the wall. I'm happy to tell you that there used to be three, and Jamie has also broken one in the past. Now there is one. I told Diane the next morning and she didn't care at all. What a relief! This is the type of thing a foreigner does. It's the little differences that kick your butt! If it was common in America for the light switch to be outside the door I would not be writing this post today.
The duck after I got my hands on it.
The last duck standing. We should take bets on who will break this one.
